If helpful suggestions and sympathy from people with similar experiences were sufficient to work out significant problems, nobody would need a therapist. Difficult or important challenges can have many sources and roots—some familiar, but many surprising. Psychotherapy and psychoanalysis offer the opportunity for an encounter with the less familiar or perhaps unknown aspects that might be contributing factors to whatever you are facing.
Background
I am a licensed psychologist and psychoanalyst with more than 20 years of experience treating adult individuals and couples. I received my Certificate in Psychoanalysis from the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California in San Francisco; my Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Wright Institute in Berkeley; and my B.A. in English Literature from Cornell University. My clinical training was at the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco and, in the East Bay, at John George Psychiatric Pavilion/Alameda County Medical Center, Alta Bates Hospital, and the California College of the Arts.
I am a member and former board member of the Northern California Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology and a member of The Psychotherapy Institute, Berkeley, Division 39 of the American Psychological Association, and the Alameda County Psychological Association.
I consult with mental health professionals and have supervised psychology interns for many years and am the founding Director of the psychology training program at Holy Names University.
